The anniversary of the Dams Raid cannot go unremarked. At 2128 hours the first of 617 Squadron's 19 Lancasters took off from RAF Scampton to attack three dams in the Ruhr. It became Bomber Command's single most famous mission. The cost, as ever with Bomber Command, was significant: of the 133 crewmen, 56 did not return. Per Ardua ad Astra.
