Like many Paul started his flying career by gliding with the Air Cadets at the age of sixteen. A year later he was  awarded a RAF Flying Scholarship and obtained his Private Pilot’s Licence only a few months after his driving one. At university he served in the RAFVR and flew a variety of machinery, and had fleeting involvement in a war. He participated in the 2001 London – Sydney Air Race (and carried on to Tasmania).

After a career in the City of London, Paul devotes his life to writing and investing. Apart, that is, from flying, skiing, sailing and toiling on the land. He has been non-executive director of a major military charity’s retail operations, and trustee of two aviation-related charities. He has been a columnist for The Bookseller and Retail Week magazines, edited Air Pilot magazine and contributed from time to time to Pilot magazine.

Paul continues to fly around Britain and Europe. In his chosen aviation discipline Paul has represented Great Britain in several World and European championships. He was awarded a Master Air Pilot by the Honourable Company of Air Pilots, of which he is a liveryman, and competes in two inter-livery sports. He is also a member of the Biographers’ Club and the RAF Historical Society..
