I have just finished reading The Nuremberg Women by Natalie Livingstone, since it was well reviewed. A female writer, with family grievously affected by the Holocaust, her interest in the subject is obvious. The premise is to right the wrong that the Nuremberg trials are seen to have been primarily about men prosecuting men; she offers profiles of eight women of various nationalities who were involved in the proceedings.

A couple of observations: to my surprise some of the details of exposition are repeated in the first couple of chapters. It is as though they were written months apart, and Livingstone had forgotten what she had previously written. Whatever, my editor would have sorted it out!

In her acknowledgements Natalie gives thanks to her husband, Ian. Now it turns out there are several prominent Ian Livingstones in the UK. I encountered one in my earlier career (he ended up as chairman of BT, inter alia). But Natalie’s hubby is one of the richest businessmen in the UK, owner with his brother Richard of the property development company London & Regional Properties (last estimate of their joint net worth >£6bn!).

One of her two previous books is The Mistresses of Cliveden. This might be because her husband and brother-in-law are lessors of the house, which is now operated as a luxe hotel. A good avenue for an author to sell her books!
